Ronald Bacay Caligan, also known as Ron, passed away on February 22, 2012. He was born on February 17, 1972 to Juan Caligan and Teodocia Bacay, in Pasay City, Philippines. Being the eldest boy amongst three brothers, he was fondly given the nickname “Onnie”. Ron was the type of person that helped without asking for anything in return. He was a typical Kuya to his younger siblings. His love for parents and family, commitment and dedication to work, perseverance, determination and generosity was one of the qualities he modeled to his brothers.
After migrating with his family to the U.S., he worked at McDonald’s with his two brothers, Robert and Romeo. For many years, he worked two jobs at a time to help the family while he continued to pursue his college degree.
Outside of the home, Ron was a great worker and a good friend to his co-workers. He is well loved and liked at the companies he worked in. He worked for Alcatel Networks for many years. He mentored many of his co-workers, friends and his younger siblings who also worked there. His dedication and commitment to his work earned him the trust and recognition of his boss and colleagues.
After many years of working and being in the U.S., Ron decided to take some time off to meet Judy Mae, for the very first time. Judy and Ron met online and were friends but have not met until his visit. After many months of courtship they got married on February 21, 2004 in the presence of loved ones. It became a long distance love affair as Ron left and went back to the U.S. Technology and their love made it possible to keep them connected with each other. On February 11, 2012, Judy became reunited with Ron once again. It was one of Ron’s happiest moments. Although his time with her was short, the time they spent together will always be those cherished and remembered.
In his free time, he loved teaching his niece, Raelynn and his nephew, Luke, when he watched after them. Ron was a great uncle who would go out of his way to make them happy. He was always excited to see them when they came to visit and always had a smile on his face teaching them and spending quality time with them.
Always up to date on the latest international news and current affairs, he was outspoken about political issues and disagreed with many of them. Ron was a nationalist and supported Filipinos who were trying to make a name for them. He loved Charice Pempengco’s music and he never missed a Manny Pacquiao fight.
Ron was a man of very few words when it came to love, family and his health. When you ask him, he always said he was ok. But when he spoke, everyone listened. Being well respected in his family, his advice, support, and mere presence will be truly missed.
We know that Ron is peacefully reunited with God and his loved ones who have gone before him. We are consoled knowing that he is no longer suffering and that he can finally obtain the rest that he has longed for. We love you Ron and you will always be in our hearts!
