

It is with great sadness the family members of Sherrill Max Spurgeon announce his passing on March 13, 2014. Sherrill Max is survived by his loving wife Esperanza Spurgeon, daughter Nikki (Donny) Asbury, granddaughter Elizabeth Asbury, great grandson Carter Mason, his mother Annabel Spurgeon, his sisters Irene (Peter) Caruso, Marian (James) Penfold, Carol Scislowicz, Margaret Mockler, his brothers James (Kathy) Spurgeon, John (Eloise) Spurgeon, his stepsons Dennis (Mary) Sanchez, Nicholas Sanchez, Felipe (Sandy) Sanchez, Steven Sanchez and his stepdaughter Esperanza (Larry) Green, numerous nieces, nephews and step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Max Spurgeon and his loyal dog Wizard. He grew up in Knoxville Illinois and assisted his father at the Cities Service Station for 10 years in Galesburg, Illinois. After gaining experience as a mechanic at the foot of his father, he then moved to San Jose, California. It was in San Jose that he married the love of his life Esperanza. Sherrill Max was initiated into the Operating Engineers Local No. 3 in 1966. He held many positions in District 90 Heavy Duty Mechanic, Dispatcher, JAC Coordinator, Business Agent, Assistant District Representative, District Representative and numerous advisory board positions. He held the office of Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Vice President, Special Representative and retired in 2002.
