Tom was a good man and a fine Deputy Sheriff.  His entire family was dedicated to "Keeping the Peace."

I am incredibly saddened to hear the news of Tom’s passing. I have known Tom since I was a kindergartener at Saint Rita’s. His son Tim and I became fast, close friends—a friendship that would last through our time at Drake High School. My fondest memory of Tom was when he was the Marin County Sheriff, and he came to Saint Rita’s in his patrol cruiser, and in full Uniform—department issued side arm, shotgun and all. I was immediately intrigued. It was so amazing to get to explore the car and have Tom show us the lights and sirens and his radio and how each worked. I remember being so jealous of Dan Larkey, who got to sit in the front seat and get an up—close and personal view of the inside of the car. From that moment on I decided I was interested in Law Enforcement—an interest I still hold today. I owe that to Tom and will always cherish this memory. 
I believe he was retired at this point, but another memory I have is when Tom would regularly come to Saint Rita’s for “Yard Duty” and Tim and I would always go up to him, walk and talk with him, during these times. He would also sneak us chewing gum from time to time. 
One last memory of Tom I have is when we were watching one of Pam’s basketball games at Drake. He was supportive of not only her, but of the entire team—seeing the nurturing side of him left me in awe. 
Tom was like a second father to me during my elementary/middle school years, and I adored him like the many others who’s lives he touched. It was an honor to know him, an honor to know his family, and I’m deeply saddened by his loss. 
To Pam, Tommy, Tim and Nick: I love you all so much and hurt for you all. I have tears in my eyes. If there’s any comforting advice I can give, it’s this: Though your dad no longer is physically here with us, he is here in spirit, in your hearts, and the hearts of every person he had an impact on. I was sorry to hear about Tom's passing. I have fond memories of working with Tom on mutual investigations.  He was a good guy , a font of pertinent information, and always there if I needed local assistance.

Odetto family I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  I grew up knowing Tom and was blessed to consider him a friend.  He coached my basketball team at St. Rita's.  Sending you prayers and strength as you navigate this truly difficult time.

Dear Odetto family,
Tom is one of my favorites people of my child hood and teen life. I have such warm, positive memories of him. My first memories of him were when I was a kid at Brookside. Then in high school, he was our softball coach. He was so much fun. He was supportive, kind and the first adult male that I could actually talk to who would really listen. I used to stay after practice to further practice fielding with Tom. I would stand in left field and he would hit balls to right. I had such fun, running and diving for balls with him cheering me on. We stayed in touch into my 20s and I even went for a ride along with him when he was Sheriff for Marin County. One time he took me out to Skywalker Ranch and said I was his little sister so we could get a tour.
I know that he had a huge effect on so many people
And I can tell you for sure that all of us in the picture above are hurting along side you and sending you love.

I am very sorry for your loss.  

Tom was like a second Dad to me growing up.  He always called me little Ferny considering my last name is Fernandez.  My sister Gina was called big Ferny.

Almost everyday I’d see Tom jog up and down Sleepy Hollow.  He always stopped to say hello.  He was always so helpful to me in my sports decisions.

Years go by and you may not see someone all the time but I’ve often thought about your Dad and always asked my parents if they have seen him .  My parents live on Angela Ave and they to often saw Tom jog .

Two years ago I got a huge sunrise for my 50th birthday.  Tom showed up at my house , thanks to my sister!  It was so great to see Tom and catch up in the little time we had .  That is the last memory I will have of him.

I had a dream about Tom last night.  I had this weird feeling this morning and so I decided to look Tom up on the internet and sure enough I know now he’s passed.  I’m so heart broken.

I feel honored to have shared so many things in my life with you. I can hear your voice saying,"Willie Hambone"! I was also very proud for you to have been at your retirement party at Deer Park Villa! You were one of a kind and I am grateful to have been your friend. Onward and upward! Your bud, Willie Hambone!

Our uncle Tom was one of our favorite uncles   He used to take us out on motorcycle rides and to the movies.

We will miss him.

Bless you, uncle Tom, for being uniquely you.
