Bill was born on July 26, 1923, in San Francisco. On August 16, 1952, he married his loving wife, Marie Mayhood. Together they were blessed with five devoted children: Ron Campbell, Mame Campbell-Salin, Clancy Campbell, Steve Campbell and Laurie Campbell. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Peter and Andrew Campbell, Zachary and Jared Salin and Christopher Campbell and the dear father-in-law of Jane Campbell, Doug Salin and Pomp Campbell.
His parents, Elmer G. and Ella Dowling Campbell and his brother, Robert G. Campbell, preceded him in death. Seven nieces and nephews and numerous cousins also survive him.
Bill was a science and math teacher and counselor in the San Francisco Unified School District. In his leisure time he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and playing golf and bridge. With his own hands he designed and built a cabin at Lake Tahoe where his family spent every summer together.
Bill firmly believed that no one should ever go hungry. In his memory, the family prefers donations to St. Vincent de Paul in San Rafael, St. Anthony’s Dining Room in San Francisco, or the food bank of your choice.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mission San Rafael, 1100-5th Avenue, San Rafael, on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Funeral arrangements are by Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.
