She is survived by her husband Captain John A. Lynch, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years and their daughters, Gail & Deborah, and her beloved grandchildren: Cathryn & Caroline Bennett and Madison & Trevor Oliveira, son-in-law Scott Bennett and by her sister, Barbara LeClaire.
Born in Boston, Carol spent her summers on Nantucket in a charming old whaling captain’s home in Siasconset with her mother, Mary Ring Kerwin, and her sister, Barbie Ring. It was during these summers that her love for Cape Cod and the ocean grew, and it was on one of those ferry rides that she caught the eye of a handsome crew member who would soon become her husband, John.
Another favorite place of hers was their vacation home in Rangeley, Maine that she and John built together. There, family and friends gathered to ski, hike and snowmobile and enjoy that beautiful mountain region. The first winter of their retirement, they took the trip of a lifetime, sailing to Key Largo where they happened upon a magical place called Kawama - like a summer camp for retirees. There they spent every winter thereafter making memories with the other snowbirds.
Carol's professional life was marked by a remarkable 40-year tenure at Hy-Line, where she made significant contributions across various departments, including the ticket office, the tour bus division and marketing. She was particularly proud of her role in the creation of Cape Cod Canal Cruises in Onset. Her passion for history, the ocean, and the Cape is woven into the very fabric of the Canal Cruise commentary that so many have enjoyed over the years and can still hear today.
A dedicated member of Swift Memorial Methodist Church in Sagamore, Carol sang in the choir for many years and took great joy in performing in the annual Christmas and Easter Cantatas. Her love for the water was well known—every boat the family owned was named "Carol Ann," and she loved swimming laps around the boat, even if everyone else thought the water was too cold to get in. The kids called them "Swimming Nonnies.”
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, September 6th from 3-6pm at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Rt. 6A, Sandwich. A Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday, September 7th, 11am at Swift Memorial Methodist Church in Sagamore, MA with a reception to follow in Buzzards Bay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bristol Hospice Foundation https://bristolfoundation.org/ in her memory.
Carol’s legacy of faith, love and a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
