Charlotte M. “Chicky” (Adams) Silva was born on October 3, 1952, in Boston, MA, to the late Frank and Marie (Smith) Adams. A lifelong resident of Sandwich, she peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on March 4th at the age of 72.
In 1984, Charlotte and her late husband, James Silva, established Cape Cod BMX after their two sons took an interest in BMX racing. For the next 18 years, they developed and operated three BMX tracks on Cape Cod—initially in Mashpee, then Sandwich, and finally at Otis Air Force Base—while balancing their full-time jobs. Charlotte's commitment to the sport enabled countless individuals across Massachusetts to embrace their passion for BMX racing.
In her twenties, Charlotte worked as a school bus driver for the town of Sandwich and was actively engaged with the Sandwich Fire Department Wives Association during that time. She later graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy. Chicky began her career as a Registry Police officer at the Motor Vehicle Department in Hyannis, where she served for over a decade. In her 40s, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. She then joined the State Police in the CDL Licensing division located at Otis Air Force Base and retired from the Massachusetts State Police in 2007. She cherished the moments spent with her four grandchildren, enjoyed being with family, loved dogs, and had a strong passion for birds. She also enjoyed her Breakfast Club with her Townie girlfriends.
She is survived by her son, Nicholas Silva, and his wife, Christine Drew, of Mashpee, along with their children, Jessica Garrett and husband Cory of Cotuit, and Brett Silva and wife Jade of Austin, TX. Her other son, Michael Silva, and his children, Christian and Chase Silva, reside in Hull, MA. She also leaves behind her great-grandchild, Hunter Crowell of Sandwich, MA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James, her parents, her grandsons; Jason, and Nathan Crowell both of Sandwich, MA, and her siblings, Lee Adams, and Katie Adams.
The family wishes to express their love and gratitude to Leslie Gage for her companionship, friendship, and caregiving over the past three years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Charlotte’s name to the:
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, https://www.cff.org/donate or Boston Children’s Hospital, childrenshospital.org.
A visitation to celebrate Charlotte's life will take place on Tuesday, March 11th, from 4 to 8 PM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, located at 154 Route 6A in Sandwich, MA. A service honoring her life will be held on Wednesday, March 12th, at 11 AM at the funeral home. The burial will be private.
