Claire Marie Scott

Mrs. Claire M. (Griffin) Scott, 79, longtime resident of Sandwich, died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at West Bridgewater Life Care Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Gordon A. Scott with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.

Claire was born December 2, 1934 to the late Adolph and Helen (Gately) Griffin. She worked for many years for Harvard Educational Review in Cambridge. An active person her entire life, Claire enjoyed figure skating in her younger years and she was an avid golfer and former member of the Pocasset Golf Club and Sandwich Hollows. Claire also loved Sandwich and was active in the community, often volunteering at the Library and at the Nye House. Claire was always a dog lover and cared for several dogs throughout her life. Above all, she loved her family deeply. She made every attempt to always support her grandchildren, often attending sporting or theatrical events.

Claire is survived by her son, Stephen G. Scott and his partner Margie D. Smith of VA, daughter, Lynne M. Place and her husband Donald Jr. of Bridgewater, grandchildren, Scott and Kathryn Place of Bridgewater.

Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday from 4-7PM in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich. Funeral Service in the Funeral Home on Thursday at 9:30AM with burial to follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
