Clarence (“Gary”) Carey Jr. left this world on October 8, 2023, surrounded by the love and memories he created over his life, including the course of his 60-year marriage to his devoted wife, Angela Carey. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and endless cherished moments.
Clarence was a loving father to two daughters, Barbara Corcoran and Jane Steinmetz, both of whom, along with their husbands Colin Corcoran and John Steinmetz, were touched deeply by his unwavering love and guidance.
Clarence's legacy extended to his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He leaves behind four grandchildren from the Corcoran family: Chase, Delanie, Shane, and the late Brittany. From the Steinmetz family, he is survived by Alexis, Christian, Madison, and Mackenzie. His wisdom, kindness, and love will continue to inspire and guide them throughout their lives.
Clarence was not only a loving husband and father but also a cherished brother. He shared a close bond with his siblings: Barbara Murray, Carole Millspaugh and Joan Campion. Although his brother William Carey is no longer with us, the love and memories they shared will forever be cherished.
In addition to his immediate family, Clarence was an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews. His warmth, humor, and wisdom left a mark on their lives, and he held a special place in their hearts.
A close second to his love of family, was his love of the water. He spoke fondly about his days in the Coast Guard from 1956-1962, during which he saved many people at sea and from drowning including 6 Girl Scouts caught in a rip current. He loved his time on the “Barb-J” boating, fishing, and bull-raking. He loved the outdoors by the water, whether he was at the Canal on Cape Cod or his favorite place, Martha’s Vineyard, and he shared that love with all of us.
Clarence Carey Jr. was a man who touched the lives of those around him with his warmth, humor, and wisdom. He leaves behind a legacy of love and family values that will continue to resonate through generations.
