Daniel F. Dwyer “Grampa Danny” 80, from Sandwich, MA passed away on January 9, 2023. He never owned a computer, or an iPad, or a smartphone. He never sent a text message or took a selfie. Instead, he savored life’s simple pleasures, like reading the newspaper at Sandwich Marina while watching the boats go by. He loved a bologna sandwich on white bread and watching any Boston sports team on television. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play at Town Neck beach in Sandwich.
Danny is survived by his 3 daughters, Susie Caliendo of Duxbury, MA, Tina Dwyer of South Boston, MA, and Laura Donovan of Sandwich, MA. Danny also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, along with his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Elaine Dwyer of Sandwich, MA. Danny was born and raised in Dorchester, MA.
He graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston in 1960. He worked for Verizon for 35 years as a repairman, back in the day when they climbed telephone poles. Upon retirement he worked for a bit at Sandwich Marina. As a Cape Codder, his beverage of choice was a nice, cold “Cape Codder” in a Solo cup, preferably drank while playing horseshoes on Sandy Neck beach. He loved Sandwich, and his daily routine of getting his coffee for many years at Marylou's, where he was very proud of being named Customer of the Month! He was a salt of the earth kind soul who will be missed. Donations in Danny’s name may be made to Sandwich Fire and Rescue, Cotuit, MA 02694.
Private Services are by the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA.
