Joan Maureen Murphy

She was born in Brockton, MA, the daughter of the late Agnes Gordon and John Murphy. Joanne attended Brockton Public Schools before enlisting in the US Army in September of 1963 and was stationed at Valley Forge General Hospital in Phoenixville, PA. After discharge she made her residence in CA and NJ prior to moving to GA where she worked as an Inventory Analyst at Georgia-Pacific until retirement. Joanne moved back to MA in late 2023.

Joanne loved art and was an avid and accomplished oil painter. She had a soft spot in her heart for all animals, especially her beloved dogs, Lil Sam and Nico.

She was preceded in death by her lifetime partner, Rene Burnham.

Joanne was a second mom, a cherished friend, and a mentor to Rene’s three daughters Valerie Willette of ND, Sherry Devogelaere of CA and Sheila LaPoint of VT.

She was predeceased by brothers Charles Murphy of West Bridgewater and Fred Murphy of Brockton.

Joanne is survived by her sisters, Agnes Fallon, and Hazel “Lulu” Gray of Brockton, Susan Noel-Cote of East Sandwich, Cynthia Prescott of Coventry, CT and brothers Donald “Gus” Murphy of Braintree, Tim Murphy of Rumney, NH, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service is to be held at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A in East Sandwich, MA 02563 on May 27, 2026 from 3-6 pm.
