This guy. First things first. Dad would want you to know that he loved Jesus more than anything and wants you to know Him too. His faith was his guide, his focus, and from which he determined his purpose.
Dad was always a bit shocked that he was the survivor of his generation of family – sister, in-laws, and two loves. First there was Doris, his young sweetheart and the mother of his surviving six children: Glenn, Lauren, Myles, Lindsey, Meredith and Heather. Then there was Jean, a beautiful surprise in his later years. He treasured his time with each of them, their pictures side by side around his home.
If you knew him, you might have noticed he was a man of delightful contradictions. He was a rascal but responsible. He had strong opinions based on his convictions but loved indiscriminately. He was both an artist and poet and a brilliant diagnostician and engineer. He loved to travel but he was a homebody. He was (sometimes infuriatingly) independent but treasured time with his family and friends, who were all devoted to him.
Ultimately, Dad lived life on his terms to the very end – in his cottage on the dune, facing his favorite view of the ocean.
Of course, without him, we are bereft. He knew this might happen, but he encouraged us to celebrate his long-awaited home-coming, and that’s what we are trying to do. We are comforted now, imagining him dancing through the gates of Heaven on his new knees and into the arms of his loving Savior, who warmly welcomes him: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
In lieu of flowers, Dad would love your support of Christ Chapel in Centerville, MA.
