

Born in Cambridge, MA, a son of the late John Henry and Carmen (Giroux) Smith. He grew up in Belmont and moved to Needham, MA after he married.
Mr. Smith served in the United States Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.
He was proud of his construction career as an operating engineer. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE Local 4) for over 45 years.
He enjoyed living on Cape Cod for the past 10 years. He loved going to the canal every day to watch the boats. He loved Sandwich and would hate to travel over the bridge except to see his grandson, Parker who he treasured. He enjoyed gardening and loved all animals.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Robert C. Smith, Jr., of Titusville, FL and Matthew H. Smith and his wife Maggie Smith of Medway, MA; a sister, Lorraine Collins of Burlington, MA; a brother, John C. Smith of Burlington, MA; 2 nephews, Wayne Collins of Ohio and James Collins of Chelmsford, MA; a grandson Parker Ryan Smith. He was the brother of the late Donald F. Smith.
His funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA. Interment in Sandwich Town Cemetery.
