Ruth Elizabeth Hastings

Ruth Elizabeth (Parkinson) Hastings, 70, of Sandwich, MA, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Cape Heritage in Sandwich. She died peacefully with her family at her side, after a valiant fight against Alzheimer's disease. She was the wife of the late Kenneth N. Hastings.

Born in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late Spencer and Catherine (McBride) Parkinson. She was a graduate of Hyde Park High School Class of 1964. Mrs. Hastings grew up in the Boston area. Ruth had met Kenny on Christmas day in 1977. The couple was married the following year. They had lived in Holbrook, MA for 10 years and then moved to Clifton, ME for 32 years. She moved to the Cape in 2012.

She was an avid gardener and had a green thumb for sure. She enjoyed volunteering at the church food pantry. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports. She was truly a gentle soul and will be missed by everyone who ever met her.

Ruth is survived by a daughter, Shirley A. Souza of Forestdale, MA; step-children, Stephen Hastings, the late Leslie Hastings and Cheryl Vargas all of CA; 3 grandchildren, Joshua and Kristen Souza both of Sandwich, MA and Sarah Vargas of CA. She was the mother of the late William T. Mills.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation with the family 5 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 154 Route 6A Sandwich, MA.
