
She was born in Hyannis, Mass. on Sept. 14, 1938, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Morrow) Hendricksen of E. Sandwich, Mass. She graduated from Cranston High School in 1956.
She went on to graduate from Bates College with a degree in history in 1960. Sally stayed very active in the Bates community. She enjoyed returning to campus where she attended her son’s graduation in 1989, and most recently, her 50th class reunion.
It was at Bates that she met her husband, with whom she had 3 children. She lived in Hawaii and San Diego before raising her children in Newport, R.I. She volunteered at her childrens’ schools and was an avid fan of her sons’ soccer teams.
She returned to E. Sandwich in 1988, where she had spent her summers as a child. She volunteered and worked for the Thorton Burgess Museum and the Green Briar Jam Kitchen for nearly 20 years.
She loved spending time with and visiting her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and gardening. She was a trivia wizard and everyone knew not to call her during Jeopardy.
Sally is survived by her children: daughter Kristi and her husband Tom, most recently of Hawaii; son Todd William of New Jersey; son Randall John and his wife Tara of Yarmouth, Maine; six grandchildren and 5 nephews. She also leaves her brother, John Hendricksen and his wife Diane, and her sister, Bonnie Ruggles, all of E. Sandwich, Mass.
Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich. A graveside service will be held at Cedarville Cemetery, Route 6A E. Sandwich at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011.
