Walter was born in Providence, RI on January 10, 1936, to Walter J. and Rose (Delaney) Fagnant. He graduated from LaSalle Academy, Providence in 1953.
Walter became a firefighter at Ladder 3 in Providence, until moving with his family to Cape Cod. He built their home in Sandwich and bought a small cottage colony on East Sandwich Beach, Lighthouse Cottages which he owned and operated with his wife, Ida. Over the years they built additional cottage colonies, which many vacationers enjoyed year after year. He was appointed town accountant for the town of Sandwich for several years.
Walter became a Master Plumber and operated Sandwich Plumbing and Heating, with his sons Walter Jr., and Richard. He also owned W. T. Fagnant Construction. He was Water Commissioner at the Sandwich Water District for many years, until his retirement.
He enjoyed being involved with his children, volunteering in the Band Boosters and the Building Committee for Sandwich High School.
Walter led a full life of employment and leisure. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and skiing on both mountains and Cape Cod Bay, and he and his friends enjoyed a Friday Night Poker Club. He traveled widely with his motorhome and wintered at Sarasota Sands in Florida where he met and enjoyed lifetime friends.
Walter will be fondly remembered for his generosity, quick wit and always a laugh.
