

He was born in Boston and raised in Mission Hill, a son of the late Edward John Lyons and Mary (Teehan) Lyons. After graduating from Mission High School he went on to Boston College where he met Kerry. Bill graduated from Boston College in 1959 with a BA in Economics. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army through the ROTC program. Before reporting to Fort Sill, Oklahoma he married Kerry here in Sandwich in November 1959. He served the military for 2 ½ years and he remained a steadfast patriot his entire life. He was a longtime member of the local Post 188 American Legion here in Sandwich.
Bill worked for International Paper company for 37 years as a Sales Manager until he retired in 2000. His last 8 years of his career were spent commuting to Manhattan. He enjoyed the excitement of the Big Apple and taking in Broadway shows with Kerry. Upon retirement he traveled with Kerry and extended family and friends.
He also volunteered at the Sandwich Council on Aging and the Corpus Christi chapter of St. Vincent de Paul Society.
He is survived by his children, Kerin E. Howard of East Sandwich; William E. Lyons and his wife Meghan, Christopher G. Lyons of Florida. He was a cherished grandfather to Hannah, Olivia, Madeline, Abigail, Will, Lindy, and Grace. He is also survived by two sisters, Clare Lyons Flanagan and Maryellen Lyons Keleher as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his daughters, Jo Ann Lyons Gearin and Amy Lyons, and by his brother Edward Lyons.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 27th at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Parish, East Sandwich. A private burial will be held at St. Peter’s cemetery at a later date.
