Ardath Sams Underwood

Ardath Sams Underwood, 84 of Roswell died November 18, 2014. Mrs. Underwood was born in Atlanta and was the daughter of the late Lewis Reeve Sams, Sr. and Ardath Conklin Sams. She graduated from Washington Seminary and attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Ardath served The Capital City Club Women’s Golf Association as president, as did her mother. She was also a long-time volunteer in the ER at Northside Hospital. Mrs. Underwood loved animals, playing bridge, golf, and bowling. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Taylor Underwood; daughters, Ardath Nancy Underwood Runion (Charles), Kathleen Winston Underwood Bridges (Wade); son, William Reeve Underwood (Jan Lewis); grandchildren, Raymond William Granade, Kathleen Bridges Seltzer, Ardath Evelyn Runion Carlile; and 3 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Atonement, 4945 High Point Rd., Sandy Springs, GA 30342 or to Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Rd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. A memorial service will be Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 11 o’clock at The Episcopal Church of the Atonement.
