Barbara was born on August 22, 1937, in Baltimore, MD. After completing high school, she attended Union Memorial School of Nursing, where she earned her Registered Nurse degree.
Barbara loved to share her nursing wisdom and often said, “Once a nurse, always a nurse.” She took great pride in her four children: Steve, Lauren, Leslie, and Susan. She offered them unconditional love and was a fierce protector. Barbara adored all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their games, plays, dance recitals, and other events in full support.
Barbara had a huge heart for animals. At various times, she had six or more dogs, numerous cats, rabbits, turtles, and more. She loved rescuing pets, and they became her world. She was even a champion for insects, snakes, and other creatures. In addition to her love for animals, Barbara was passionate about the beach, baseball, and reading. She was a gifted communicator, with a great sense of humor, a feisty spirit, and a knack for giving thoughtful advice.
Barbara is survived by her four children and their families:
Steven Paul Klaesius, formerly married to Sandy Klaesius, and children Margaret Klaesius Green (Connor), Charles Kirwan Klaesius, and great-granddaughter Goldie Collier Green.
Lauren Klaesius Garvey, married to Eric Garvey, and their children Sara Kaitlin Garvey, Elliott John Garvey, Lucas Lee Garvey (Bailey), Amelia Elizabeth Garvey, and great-grandson Thornton Hannibal Garvey-Daniels.
Leslie Klaesius Hall, married to Gregory Hall, and their children Meagan Hall Ellerman (Luke), Madeline Kay Hall, Elizabeth Hall Kutteh (John), and great-grandchildren Clara Louise Ellerman, Elijah Hall Ellerman, and Micah Lucas Ellerman.
Susan Klaesius Stewart, married to David Stewart, and their children Anne Carroll Stewart, Kathryn Jane Stewart, and John David Stewart.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents Robert Kirwan, Carolyn Brown, and Carroll Brown.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held in August.
