

Betty Cook, age 85, of Dunwoody, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 10, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Garland Bennie Cook, Sr., and survived by their 4 sons: Garland Bennie Cook, Jr. (Maricar), David Cook, Steven Cook (Heidi), and Douglas Cook. Also surviving are her grandchildren Andrew Cook, Dennis Cook, William Cook, Peter Cook, and Melanie Cook, as well as siblings James "Buddy" Jones, Laura Ann Motter, and Marion Jones.
Mom was born in Smyrna, Georgia, the daughter of Mae Jones and James "Jimmy" Jones, graduated from Smyrna High School, and became a registered nurse after attending Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta. It was in nursing school that she met Garland Cook and they married on December 2, 1950. After a few years of private duty nursing, Mom devoted herself to full-time duties as wife, mother, and homemaker before later becoming Dad's legal secretary after raising "her boys". Her sons will be forever grateful for her love, encouragement, and support that lasted until the day she left us.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, Ga. 30328. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 11:00 am at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, Dr. William Baggett officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, 30328. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Dunwoody Baptist Church, 1445 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, Ga. 30338.
