Beverly Chapman Bateson of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on November 30, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Atlanta. Following graduation from Southwest Dekalb High School, she went on to attend Stetson University where she received her degree in Education. Upon returning home, she taught Third Grade within the Dekalb County School System. Shortly after marrying her late husband, Dr. Edward M. Bateson, she opted to be a stay at home mom for her two daughters whom she loved dearly. Years later she began teaching at the Cathedral Preschool and retired after 40 years of service. She had a lasting impact on the lives of many children and their families.
Her Alphabet Books and poems were her signature!
Beverly enjoyed traveling around the world with others, dinners and movies with friends, playing with various Mahjong groups and searching up and down for the best garage sale. Nothing gave her as much joy as spending time with her grandchildren. From vacation trips to the beach to sleepovers with “BeBe”, she was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren. She never missed one of their many sporting events and was a fixture for many years at NYO.
She never met a stranger, was quick with a smile and treated all with genuine kindness. Her quick wit and love for a good joke was ever present. Our Mom was the epitome of grace and dignity.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward M. Bateson, Mother, Gwendolyn C. McHan, Stepfather, Dr. Charles McHan and Father, Dr. George A. Chapman.
She is survived by her daughters : Dr. Georgia Bateson Murphy (Tom) and Paige Bateson Lindler (Scott). Grandchildren: Caitlin Murphy Hernandez (Lucas), Alexander Edward Murphy, Georgia Sellars Lindler and Matthew Edward Lindler.
She leaves behind countless friends and her beloved dog, Bulldozer. We will be forever grateful to Gregory B. Slack and Yvette Runner for always taking care of our Mom.
A visitation for Beverly will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road Ne, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
A funeral service will occur Friday, December 8, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 173 Allen Road Ne, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
A committal service will occur Friday, December 8, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Westview Cemetery Inc., 1680 Westview Dr SW, Atlanta, GA 30310.
The family will receive friends at her home after the burial.
