On Friday, November 14, 2014, William George Wetzel of Dunwoody, GA, passed away peacefully at Northside Hospital, in the arms of Pam, his lifelong love and wife of over 50 years. Bill, age 70, died of complications from AL Amyloidosis, a rare blood disease that he’d battled valiantly for the past 18 months.
Along with his wife Pamela F. Wetzel, he is survived by his two daughters and their families: Jill Wetzel of Sonoma, CA, and granddaughters Taylor Blackburn (21) and Amelia Blackburn (18); Holly Williams of Bishop, GA, son-in-law Devon Williams, and grandchildren Nicholas (17) and Emma (12).
Bill was born in Johnstown, PA. An accomplished athlete and dynamic leader, he attended Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh, PA, and graduated from Princeton University. He built a successful career at Proctor & Gamble and The Clorox Company, developing management savvy that led to a corporate leadership development venture later in life.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer. Throughout their marriage, he and Pam enjoyed traveling to places they loved, cooking together, gardening, and hosting family gatherings in their beautiful home. His steadfast dependability, thoughtful manner and sage advice will be sorely missed by many friends and family who loved him dearly.
For those who prefer, donations may be sent to the Amyloidosis Foundation at amyloidosis.org.
Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family Thursday afternoon, November 20th from half past one o’clock until three o’clock at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Services celebrating Bill’s life will take place in the chapel and will commence at three o’clock.
