Billie was born on May 19, 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late William (Bill) and Lucille Martin.
Billie loved the real estate business, working as an office manager for the many years that she lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In 1984, she and Harold moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and Billie began working for the newly formed BellSouth Corporation where she was instrumental in developing the employee relocation business plans. For over 20 years, Billie and her team assisted BellSouth employees with their corporate relocation packages, including helping to find new homes for countless people.
In her freshman year of high school, Billie’s eye was caught by the handsome sophomore, Harold Hodnett. They later became high school sweethearts, married at age 17 and 19 and lived the next 67 years together until Harold’s passing in December 2024. They loved to travel, but more importantly, loved being around their family and church friends.
In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold Hodnett and great-grandson, Shane Michael Heintzman.
She is survived by her brother J.W. Martin (Carol); her two children, David Hodnett (Carmen) and Karen Cherry (John); five grandchildren: Alan Cherry (Hannah), Lauren Harber (Stephen), Landon Hodnett (Emily), Lane Hodnett (Jordan), Lanae Heintzman (Darren); and seven great-grandchildren: Eleanor and Henry Harber, Marley and Trace Hodnett, Nora and Emma Hodnett, and Theo Heintzman.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Billie Hodnett’s name to the Habersham church of Christ’s Christian Education fund.
Donations can be mailed to: Habersham Church of Christ, P.O. Box 97, Cornelia, GA 30531.
