Carrie Alice J. Brooks died peacefully Monday, November 30, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was deeply devoted to her family, a loyal and loving friend to many, a talented golfer and accomplished bridge player. She will be remembered for her loving nature expressed in gracious entertaining, delicious cooking, sense of humor and exceptional style. A Celebration of her Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015, at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA with the Reverend Nancy Folsom Lane officiating. A graveside service at Arlington Memorial Park will follow the service. Pallbearers will be her 3 sons-in-law and 3 grandsons. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Mrs. Brooks was born February 24, 1929, in Anderson, SC to the late William E. and Nettie Mae Ashley Jenkins. She was a life-long church member and after many years at St. James Untied Methodist Church, found a new church home at Roswell United Methodist Church when she and her husband moved to Saint George Village in 2010. She attended the University of South Carolina but soon began dating and then married her husband of 66 years, also from Anderson. This union soon blessed her with a life-long career as a mother of 6 children by the age of 27, followed by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a fiery redhead whose quick wit delighted family and friends. She graced every day with style and class. She was the consummate hostess and loved to entertain. A servant at heart, she worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone, whether family or friend, was well fed and well taken care of from the moment of their arrival. Though very active socially, Mrs. Brooks was most committed to and proud of her large, loving family and gathered them often at her homes in Atlanta, GA, Highlands, NC and on numerous vacations. She was a resident of Sandy Springs for 50 years prior to moving to Roswell. She is survived by five of her children, Margaret Brooks Kelley (Lynn) of Tifton, Debbie Brooks Keller (Tom) of Nashville, TN, Lovic A. Brooks III (Nancy) of Columbia, SC, Alice Brooks Bowen of Marietta, Susan Brooks Pitts (Larry) of Roswell, fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Lovic A. Brooks, Jr. and their daughter Catherine L. Brooks, and three siblings, William E. Jenkins, Jr., Clarence Earl Jenkins, and Robert Ashley Jenkins. Her family would like to thank the many friends who have visited, called and expressed love and support, as well as her caregivers at Friendship House, St. George Village. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choosing. H.M.
