

Charles (Charlie) Albin Lloyd , Sr, 81, of Sandy Springs, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Born on October 5, 1932 in Birmingham, AL, (he was the “Best thing to come out of Alabama since I-20”), to Jewel Albin and Emma May Quinnelly Lloyd. When he was 4 years old, he moved to Atlanta, GA with his parents. He attended Liberty Gwinn Elementary school where he met his future bride, Martha Virginia Morris, on a hay ride. He graduated from North Fulton High School, was in the Army ROTC and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves. In addition he was a Golden Gloves boxing champion. A graduate of UGA, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Charlie worked as a Manufacturer Representative for evaporative coolers for years until he retired in 2005. He was a former President of the Staffordshire Terrier Club of America and the Atlanta Racing Pigeon Society. A loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was preceded in death by his loving wife at 56 years, Martha Morris Lloyd. Charles is survived by his brother, Raymond Lloyd (Susan); sisters, Peggy Melton ( Eston), Lynda Joyce Lloyd; Children, Charles Lloyd Jr. (Lisa), Bonny Applefield (Ed), Libby Nanney (Tom), Debby Harper (Jeff); grandchildren, Davis Lloyd, Clayton Lloyd, Nicole Antolino (Ryan), John Michael Keiley, Katie Applefield, Carolyn Applefield, Suzanne Nanney Cullen Harper (Jodi), Ashley Harper Evans (Dustin), Chelsea Harper, Cameron Harper, and Matt Risner; great-grandchildren, Otis Lloyd and Madison Risner; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. A committal service will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. The Lloyd family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Somerby of Alpharetta and Menders of Atlanta, Halcyon Hospice and Dr. Kimberly Champney and her staff for their loving care and attention to Charlie over the past few years. Donations may be made in Charles' honor to Northside Park Baptist, "Operation Christmas Child" (1877 Howell Mill Rd. NW, Atlanta).
