He was born on February 3, 1939, in Logansport, Indiana, to Malcom and Loretta Lybrook. Chuck lived a life defined by service, humility, and quiet leadership. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Susan; his daughters Joan (Mark) and Julie (George); and his five grandchildren: Alexandra and Olivia (Julie), and Charles, Robert, and Katherine (Joan.) He was preceded in death by his brother, David Lybrook.
While at Indiana University, Chuck played the trumpet as a member of the storied IU Marching Band, as well as with the IU orchestra, and a dance band. He was also president of his fraternity, Lambda Chi. Following graduation, he attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy. His service included time aboard the USS Princeton in the Western Pacific and a posting in San Diego, where he met his future bride, Susie. Chuck and Susie were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1963 and soon thereafter moved to London for his final Navy assignment before his honorable discharge as a Lieutenant.
Chuck went on to a pioneering career in information technology, playing key leadership roles in the development of the SABRE airline reservation system and the first networked ATM, and later serving as a Chief Information Officer. Following his corporate career, he became a mentor and trusted advisor to many executives as CEO of a community for CIOs.
He also served as president of his beloved Dunwoody Country Club and, in retirement, fully embraced his passions for gardening, genealogy, and golf. When he wasn’t traveling abroad with Susie or on the golf course with friends and family, he could often be found tending his impressive collection of azaleas and roses or documenting family history to create a lasting record for future generations.
Chuck was quiet and humble – a true servant leader who was dedicated to helping others achieve their full potential. He was known for his for his lightness of spirit, big smile, and wonderful sense of humor and will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
