Mac, the son of Charles McCord and Ruth Gordon Purdy grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated
from University of Indiana in 1963 with a degree in math and physics.
Following college, Mac joined the U.S. Air Force. After officer training and flight navigator school, Mac
spent four years in Charleston flying transport planes (C 130and C141) to more than 60 countries on
every continent. Since a young age, he had always wanted to follow adventure and see the world.
While in Charleston, he met and married the love of his life Linda Dobran. Charleston remained a special
place throughout their fifty plus years of marriage. Following five years of service in the air force, Mac and
Linda moved to Atlanta to start their family and begin a new chapter in their lives. In 1968, Mac met his
first computer and found his calling. After gaining experience in the business world, Mac, along with his
longtime friend and mentor Robert Dale Jones started the software firm Tri-I. In 1984, the company was
sold to a large Atlanta based company.
Mac's next adventure began when he joined Wilds Pierce and RMI. RMI was a company that rode the
early technology wave of data communication, business internet processing and cloud computing. Mac
described the work as fun but what truly guided him throughout his career was a deep caring and
commitment to the well-being of his colleagues and employees. He valued creating an environment for all
that was filled with respect, integrity and collaborative relationships that provided a strong, family like
support to his employees.
Following the sale of RMI in 2006, Mac's close connections with Wilds and other dear colleagues and
friends continued with many treks to Scotland, Ireland, and other golf meccas. Mac often joked, "We
played mediocre golf on some of the finest courses in the world."
Mac and Linda have two beloved daughters living in Atlanta. Leslie is so proud of who her Dad was as a
person and grateful to him for being her rock. Danna carries with her much heartfelt advice from her Dad
about how important it is to follow your dreams and have the courage to take risks to make those dreams
come true.
Mac and Linda spent these last years welcoming five grandchildren into the world and building a family
retreat at Balsam Mountain Preserve in North Carolina. He cherished his time in the mountains and all the close friends that were part of that community. Mac and Linda also relished traveling internationally and especially enjoyed their last trip to the prehistoric caves in France.
Mac declared. "It was a wonderful life."
Mac will be remembered by his family and many friends as a beloved husband, father, and devoted
grandfather. His gentle, kind, loving and generous spirit will remain in the hearts of all that he touched.
He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Leslie Purdy and her daughter Lilah; daughter Danna Nichols,
her husband Greg Nichols and their children Grace, Laney, Davis, and Grant; sister Lissa Hunter and her
husband Kirby Pilcher; and brother-in-law Arnold Dobran.
Due to Covid, there will be a private family service at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Mac and Linda would appreciate donations to be made to The Link Counseling Center, 348 Mt. Vernon Hwy., N.E., Sandy Springs, GA. 30328 www.thelink.org
