Born Delphine Elizabeth O’Sullivan on August 1st, 1936, to Michael and Delphine O’Sullivan. She grew up in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago and graduated from Aquinas Dominican High School.
Delphine met her future husband, Samuel Garretson at Rainbow Beach in Chicago at the age of 12 and began dating in high school. They married in December of 1955.
She held multiple roles during her lifetime: secretary for a law firm out of high school, Girl and Cub Scout leader for children, captain of several tennis teams, but her favorites were wife and mother. She and Samuel were the parents to five children: David, Michael, Gregory, Mathew, and Jennifer.
The young family crisscrossed the country multiple times while her husband was in the Air Force and began his career in the Aerosol Business. Delphine coordinated each long-distance move … from Chicago, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Southern California, back to IL and then finally made permanent roots in Atlanta Georgia in the fall of 1977. They lived the rest of their lives in Atlanta where Sam was the owner/president of Piedmont Labs. After Samuel retired, Delphine relished traveling to several countries with her husband and enjoying their vacation homes in South Carolina where they enjoyed playing golf together.
She and her husband were members of the Dunwoody Country Club and All Saints Catholic Church.
Samuel died in 2014; they were married for 58 years.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her five children: David (Shari) Garretson, Michael (Beth) Garretson, Gregory (Mary) Garretson, Mathew (Amie) Garretson, and Jennifer (Daniel) Brown. She was the proud grandmother to 12: Mackenzie, Meredith, Patrick, Brianna, Benjamin, Fiona, Emily, Elizabeth, Samuel, Jack, Thomas, Alex, as well as her only Great Grandson James.
A celebration of life is planned for September and the interment will be private.
