John was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and was a graduate of Kent State University and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was blessed with a successful 35-year career with W.R. Grace as a sales leader, where he not only succeeded professionally but touched countless lives through his leadership. John loved what he did and loved the people he worked with even more. He believed deeply in the untapped potential of his employees, always wanting them to be the best they could be. As one colleague remembered, "he believed in us and always stood up for us professionally and personally." Most recently, John worked part-time as a Ranger at River Pines Golf Course, a job he truly enjoyed.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife of 37 years, Linda Mae Curtin, also of Youngstown, Ohio. He is survived by his devoted wife of 19 years, Marianne Curtin of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; his daughter Amy Chope and her husband Ric Chope of San Jose, California; his son Michael Curtin and his wife Stacey Curtin of Alpharetta, GA; six grandchildren: Jack Curtin, Alexandra Curtin, Sam Curtin, Caitlin Curtin, Kelsey Chope, and Anna Chope. He is also survived by his stepson Jarred Schenke and his wife Megan and step-grandchildren Connor, Spencer, and Tanner Schenke, and step-granddaughter Hailey Hurd.
John had an uncommon zest for life and new experiences, enjoying nearly every minute of it. He enjoyed snow skiing, boating, golfing, running, swimming, tennis, travel and delighted in passing on his love for many of these activities to his children and grandchildren. John was known for his Irish humor and remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. He lived his life with self-confidence, resilience, and was characterized by his integrity, abundant laughter, and deep love for his family and friends.
John will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of believing in others, living with joy, and embracing life's adventures will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Celebration of Life festivities will be Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 5 to 8 o'clock at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Dr., Sandy Springs, GA 30328 in the Ministry Hall.
