

Dr. Dennis Lee Fielder, 66, of Roswell, died January 22, 2011. Dr. Fielder was born January 14, 1945 in Bedford, Indiana to June and Dwight Fielder. His family moved to Eau Gallie, Florida in 1951. He graduated from Melbourne High School in 1962 where he won first place in the Florida State Science Fair and third place in the National Science Fair. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Florida in 1966 and was President of the University of Florida Chapter of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He then earned an M.D. from the University of Florida in 1970 after which he joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy Dr. Fielder completed his internship and anesthesia residency at the San Diego Naval Hospital and served as a search and rescue medical officer and a flight surgeon, eventually attaining the rank of Commander. He was also stationed at the Jacksonville Naval Hospital before being honorably discharged after nine years of service. Dr. Fielder moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1979 and joined Northside Anesthesiology Consultants where he practiced as an anesthesiologist for 19 years. Upon retiring in 1998, he moved to Amelia Island, Florida and enjoyed living on the beach until 2009 when he returned to Atlanta. He was a lifelong fan and supporter of the Florida Gators. Dr. Fielder is survived by his wife, Cheryl Fielder; daughters and sons-in-law, Keri and David Conley, Sara and Peter Baker; grandchildren, Ryan and Sam Conley; brother, Robert Fielder; and numerous other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Take Stock in Children (takestockinchildren.org) where Dr. Fielder was actively involved as a mentor. A memorial service will be Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11 o’clock at Patterson’s Arlington Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at H.M.
