Donald E. Harper

4 décembre , 19357 octobre , 2019

Donald E. Harper, 83, died Monday, October 7, 2019, after a long illness.

Don was born on the family farm in Carrollton, Missouri, on December 4, 1935, to Porter and Alma Harper. He was the valedictorian of his high school class and was a graduate of the University of Missouri. After graduation, he went to work for Union Carbide / Energizer Batteries in Milwaukee, where he met and married Nancy Borowski. After moving to Connecticut, their two daughters were born. In 1973, Don was transferred to Georgia and happily raised the family in the Dunwoody community. Don was an avid buyer and seller of John Deere tractors and Ford Mustangs. He truly enjoyed "wheeling and dealing" with the great people he met at car shows and auctions. Don still owned the family farm in Missouri which he continued to operate until recent years. He went there as often as he could - he liked living in Georgia, but his heart was in Missouri. He loved politics and spent many afternoons having conversations with the Fox News commentators. Don and Nancy are long-time members of Kingswood United Methodist Church.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Sheri Harper Champlin, and his sister, JoAnn Taylor. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy; his daughter, Joelle; two grandsons, Forrest and Ansel Champlin; his brother, Jerry; and numerous nieces and nephews. His Celebration of Life Service will be held at Kingswood United Methodist Church in Dunwoody on Saturday, October 12th, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the ALS Association, Kingswood United Methodist Church (4896 N. Peachtree Rd; Dunwoody, GA 30338), or McCroskie Creek Baptist Church (17350 CR 256, Carrollton, Missouri 64633).

I am sorry for the family loss and pray for your peace. I am of a different Harper family. We just lost my dad ,also (Don E Harper )September 21st. Today we are having his memorial. We live in Florida and our farm is in west Virginia.
Both Men seemed to be Farmers at heart and both owned John Deere's.
My dad was Born 1937 ,so was 82. They also look a little similar.
Both men were very intelligent. Both have left wives. I pray for Nancy as I am now praying for my Mother Janet.

Don was a great neighbor and very well read. Bargaining was one of his strengths for collecting tractors and cars. I am sure he struck a deal with the Almighty for a quick way to heaven. His sense of humor and logic will be missed as well as his great smile.

Condolences to Nancy and Joelle.
Cherish the memories!

I heard of cousin Donnie's passing and I immediately had a thought.

Donnie, Kenny Harper & Dad (Bobbie Baggs), the three amigos are together again!

They were first cousins and if memory serves, they were about two months apart in age!

I remember one story in particular where Donnie, Kenny & Dad went sledding down a hill, hit a snow-covered stump and tore the runner off the sled.

RIP Donnie!

Our hearts are broken for you both but we rejoice in knowing that we will all be reunited again in heaven. May the Lord bless you with strength and may you be comforted by His loving arms during your time of sadness.
We loved Don and will cherish all of the memories we have of him and with him.

Don was like a brother to me when we visited, sharing things we liked and places we enjoyed traveling to visit. His daughter Sheri was our neighbor for about 12 years, here in Golden, CO. When Nancy & Don came to visit Sheri and grandchildren, Cindy & I always enjoyed hearing about their life in GA.
We will truly miss seeing Don, but trusting to see him & Sheri, in the life to come. St John 3:16 how great is the Love of God !
