

Rev. Dr. Charles Robert (Bob) Allred, of Sandy Springs died December 4, 2014. Bob was born in Charlotte, NC, to Paul Edward Allred, a Wesleyan minister, and Florice Sides Allred. Bob graduated from Asheboro High School in 1964 where he was co-captain of the football team. He graduated from Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC, in 1968 where he met his wife Marilyn Wishart. After receiving a call to ministry, Bob attended Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, receiving the Master of Divinity in 1971, and the Doctorate of Sacred Theology in 1973, where he was mentored by the homiletics professor, Dr. Gordon Thompson. Bob served the Lord faithfully for 40 years as a minister in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Churches he served included Manchester circuit, Ousley Methodist, Northside Methodist, County Line, Asbury, Belvedere, Stone Mountain, Sandy Springs, Rome, Atlanta First Methodist, Carrollton, and St. John. Bob was well known for his quick wit, comedy, inspiring sermons, and lively “bird calls” which delighted both young and old. He was an evangelist who led many to Christ Jesus, and believed with all of his heart in salvation and eternal life. He was an enthusiastic hobbyist, with a love for photography, fountain pens, and the religious works of C.S. Lewis. He led two trips to the Holy Land. Bob is survived by his wife Marilyn Wishart Allred; daughters and sons-in-law Lyn Allred Lewis and Gerald Lewis, Candi Allred Garrison and Brian Garrison; grandchildren Charlotte, Andrew, Eli, and Rory; brother and sister-in-law Eddie and Jemmietta Allred. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 o’clock at H.M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel at 173 Allen Rd NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 2 o’clock with the family receiving friends beginning at 1 o’clock at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30305 with Dr. Bill Britt officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.
