Guerry Roland (“Buddy”) Moore, age 81, of Atlanta, GA, passed away at home on October 16, 2025. Guerry was preceded in death by his parents, James Felix and Elise Waller Moore, and his sister, Carole Jane Moore.
A native of Atlanta, Guerry was born at Emory University Hospital on September 1, 1944. Guerry grew up attending Georgia Military Academy (now known as Woodward Academy) before matriculating to college at the University of Georgia. Prior to his high school graduation, Guerry was set up on a blind date by a close friend to GMA’s Senior Dance with Barbara (“Babs”) Nolan. Barbara would proceed to graduate from high school early so she could join Guerry in Athens the following year. They were married as undergraduates in 1965. While at Georgia, Guerry joined the Chi Phi fraternity where he and Barbara made lifelong friends who would become like family over the years to come.
All his life, Guerry was an avid dove hunter and fisherman, as well as a frustrated golfer. He enjoyed fishing trips with friends to Steinhatchee, Florida and Exuma, Bahamas and hunting trips to Deep Woods Lodge in Canada. He was also a lover of football, having toiled at the half back position in high school. His football passion however, was the Georgia Bulldogs. As a season ticket holder for many years, Guerry rarely missed an opportunity to travel to Sanford Stadium to cheer on his beloved Dawgs between the hedges.
After college, Guerry attended the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, graduating in 1969 with honors and at the top of his class. Following graduation, Guerry clerked for the Honorable William A. Bootle, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Thereafter, Guerry and Barbara and their two small children returned to Atlanta and Guerry joined the law firm of Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers as a young associate. Guerry practiced law at Swift, Currie for the next two and half decades before retiring in the early 1990s. Guerry was a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar Georgia, Atlanta Bar Association, American Judicature Society, Lawyers Club Atlanta, and the Defense Research and Trial Lawyers Association. Upon his retirement, the Guerry R. Moore Insurance Award and Scholarship was established at Mercer’s law school.
Guerry is survived by Barbara, his wife of 60 years; his daughter, Daphne Moore Platford and her husband, Jim; his son, Gregory King Moore; his sister, Judith Moore Radovich; and his grandsons, of whom he was extremely proud, Ernest Banks Platford and Brooks O’Callaghan Platford.
A private, graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Arlington Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations be made to the Vacation Bible Program at the Church of the Apostles, Atlanta, GA.
