Helen Phillips Henning, age 94, of Sandy Springs, Georgia died peacefully at home on May 13, 2025. She was born in Colquitt, Miller County, Georgia on December 10, 1930; she was the daughter of Cecil Ashley Phillips and Annie Belle Adams Phillips. In 1955, she married attorney Edward Joseph Henning who preceded her in death in 2010 just before their 55th wedding anniversary. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Holly Ashley Henning Campbell and her grandson, Shane Alexander Campbell, her two sisters, Sarah Gates Phillips and Evelyn Jeannine Phillips Rooks, and her two brothers Wayne Ashley Phillips and Milton Kendrick Phillips. She is survived by her son, David Edward Henning and his wife, Joyce Crawford Henning of Marietta and by her grandson, David Patrick Henning and his wife Marcia Henning of Acworth, Georgia, granddaughter, Nicole Ryan Altenau and her husband Marc Altenau of Neptune City, New Jersey, grandson, Travis Christian Campbell and his wife Stephanie Campbell of Franklin, North Carolina, grandson, Collin Edward Campbell of Pensacola, Florida, step-grandson, Matt Crawford and his wife Anais Potea Crawford of Marietta, Georgia, and five great grandchildren, Hartley Sadie Campbell, Ashley Brooke Campbell, Morgan Patricia Altenau, Finnegan Mac Henning, and Chloe Raye Campbell. She is also survived by two siblings, Martine Phillips and Don Phillips. She also leaves behind many dearly beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Helen was an early member of Atlanta Country Club where both she and her husband socialized and played golf and enjoyed working at the Atlanta Golf Classic raising money for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
When their children were growing up, she was a stay-at-home mom and very proud to be able to do so.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ed. Her biggest joy was having the whole family and friends in for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner every year. She helped her husband start Henning Mediation and Arbitration Services, doing secretarial work and making cheese biscuits for the clients.
The family will receive friends at 2pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at H M Patterson & Son Funeral Home, 173 Allen Road, in Sandy Springs, Georgia. A memorial service will follow at 3pm in the Arlington Chapel at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta or to your favorite charity.
