Irene Kapsimalis

Irene Kapsimalis passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 99. She would have been 100 years old on Valentine's Day. Irene was sadly widowed in 1968, and returned to the workforce. She held numerous executive secretarial positions in the Chicago area. Irene proudly completed her degree in her mid-60’s from Moraine Valley Community College. Irene was also an accomplished pianist. Upon retirement she relocated to Connecticut to be with her son and daughter and recently moved to Atlanta. Irene was extremely devoted to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brother, nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, George Kapsimalis and is survived by her son, Chris Kapsimalis (Catherine); daughter, Diane Stevenson (Barney); grandchildren Brendan Kapsimalis (Megan); Colleen Kapsimalis Doyle (Ryan); Michael Kapsimalis, Christiana Jorgenson (Rasmus); Alex Stevenson (Amy); Parke Stevenson; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Rosette Backas; and brother, William Baffes (Joan). The family will receive friends at 9:00 am with a service commencing at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church located at 10301 Kolmar Ave., Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
