

James Hines Daniel died Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Mr. Daniel, known as Hines, was a native of Atlanta and born on September 29, 1928. He was the son of Sidney Lomax Daniel and Mary Hines. Mr. Daniel attended Atlanta public schools until the death of his mother in 1941, when he entered the Georgia Military Academy (now Woodward Academy). He graduated in 1945, and then attended Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia where he graduated with a business degree in 1950. While at UGA, he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity and was active in the Navy Reserves. Upon completion of his education, Mr. Daniel began working for Oxford Industries in Atlanta. During his 40-year career with Oxford, he managed plant operations in Rome, GA and Tupelo, MS. In 1967, he returned to the Divisional Headquarters of the clothing division in Atlanta. In 1971, he began working for the slacks division in Monroe, GA and subsequently became the Vice President of Manufacturing until his retirement in 1990. Once retired, he pursued his interest in genealogy and traveled to all 50 states and many parts of Europe with his wife. He also enjoyed his beloved Golden Retrievers and family. Mr. Daniel was the grandson of The Honorable James Kollock Hines, a Georgia Supreme Court Justice from 1922-1932. He was an honorary life member of the Piedmont Driving Club and served on the textile manufacturing scholarship committee for Southern Polytechnic State University. He is survived by his wife, Gwynne McFarling Daniel, his daughter, Karen Hines Daniel Wilmoth (Brian) and grandson, Asa Daniel Wilmoth. He is also survived by nieces, cousins and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Louise (Thomas) Daniel. A funeral service will take place at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel at 2:00PM on Friday, August 22, 2014. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 6:00-8:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Atlanta History Center, 130 West Paces Ferry Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30305 or a favorite charity.
