JANE HENDON HALL, 88, of Dunwoody, passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly at St. Josephs Hospital at 12:06 PM on Tuesday, June 14th. Born on September 29th, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia, she was very proud to let people know she was an Atlanta native - having lived in Atlanta, Sandy Springs and finally Dunwoody - and she always said there was no other place in the world she would want to live. She often remarked how much she had witnessed Atlanta change over the years. A true Southern lady, she had a smile that could light up the darkest of rooms and a sweet, gentle demeanor. She was peace-loving, sociable, artistic, creative, inspirational, considerate, generous, honest and beautiful - all positive qualities of a natural born Libra individual. Many used to comment that she had "Bette Davis eyes" !
She graduated from College Park High School and attended both Shorter College, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi, and the University of Georgia.
She loved being around the water and spent many years boating on Lake Lanier where she was a member of the Atlanta Power Squadron as well the Coast Guard Auxiliary in which, through study and examinations, she obtained the rank of Junior Navigator. She then spent many years coming and going to the condominium on Longboat Key Florida where she enjoyed soaking up the sunshine, being revitalized by the salty air, and enjoying many long walks on the beautiful white sand beach remarking how much she loved the warm waters of the Gulf, the sand between her toes and the refreshing ocean breezes. She also developed a deep passion for going on cruises. Between 1997 and 2006 she went on 22 different cruises taking her to destinations which included, Alaska, the Caribbean - Eastern, Western and Southern, New England and Canada, Denmark and Norway, the Panama Canal, the Mexican Riviera, and Hawaii. She met many friends on these cruises and was always saying she didn't care if the Captain took the ship out in the ocean and just went around in circles that she was just thrilled to be aboard, relax and enjoy herself, and most importantly let someone else do the driving !
Jane Hall was a daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family very much and they were very important to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertie Hendon, and her daughter Mary Jane Harrison. She is survived by her son, Cheney Hall of Dunwoody, granddaughter Dawn Harrison of Morrisville, North Carolina, sister Mary Anne Tippett of Atlanta, nephew Mike (Rosemary) Tippett of Vinings, and nieces Beth Jarrett of Jefferson, Georgia, and Ellen (David) Snyder of Atlanta, and several cousins.
Visitation will be Friday evening, June 24th, from 5-7 PM at H.M. Patterson Arlington Chapel at 173 Allen Road in Sandy Springs. Graveside services will be held Saturday morning, June 25th, at 11AM at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs - open to everyone. Flowers are welcome, but if you prefer to make a donation to your favorite charity that would be fine as she liked to help others as much as possible.
Jane Hall lived a long and very active life having been blessed with excellent health up until the very end. She was a very strong woman, but was very tenderhearted and caring as well.
"When I come to the end of the road
and the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room - why
cry for a soul set free.
Miss me a little - but not too long and
not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
and each must go alone.
It's all of the plan, a step
on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to
the friends we know
and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me, but let me go."
My mother lived a truly remarkable life that had its shares of ups and downs, but through it all she carried herself with a strong confidence, respect and humility. She gave much of herself to many yet asked for so little in return. And though it is with extreme sadness and a broken heart with the deepest pain of which I have never felt before, I will stand strong and say goodbye, for now, until we meet again in a joy filled reunion.
So to you G.I Jane, as my friends so lovingly nicknamed due to your incredible strength and tenacity, I will miss you greatly, but let you go. I was truly blessed to have gotten you for a mother and with heartfelt appreciation sincerely thank you for your unconditional love, your support, your guidance and most of all for being my best friend and confidant for 61 years !
As your soul continues its incredible journey throughout this vast and amazing Universe, I ask that the Angels guide you and hope you find illumination, enlightenment, happiness, joy and unending love always !
