Jean spent her childhood in Galveston,Texas where she attended Ball High School. She later continued her education at Saint Margaret’s Preparatory School and Mount Vernon Junior College in Virginia. These formative years nurtured her confidence, poise, and love of making friends.
On September 30, 1961, she married Louis Lindley Jones III of Canton, Georgia. The couple settled in Atlanta, where Jean became actively involved in her community as a member of the Atlanta Junior League. In later years, she pursued her love of the arts, studying acting at Dorsey Studios and appearing on stage in the lead role of Neil Simon's play, Plaza Suite.
Jean was best remembered for her vivacious personality and fun-loving spirit. She was a devoted mother and was thrilled with her four talented and inspiring grandchildren! She loved people and brought joy and laughter wherever she went. One of her great enjoyments was cooking and trying new recipes, especially if there was a delicious sauce involved! Jean was proud to have earned her real estate license and worked in residential real estate for several years with Harry Norman and Buckhead Brokers. She pursued many interests with energy and confidence, from playing competitive tennis in the ALTA League to her passion and enthusiasm for dance, especially during the disco years. All of this reflected her lively nature and her gift for embracing life with joy.
Later in life, Jean moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia, where she lived for 16 years, forming many meaningful friendships and embracing the rhythm of island life. She eventually moved to Alpharetta to live with her daughter Marie and granddaughter Rachael. She was her own person and chose to be with family in her last days and was surrounded by love in her home at the end.
Jean’s legacy is one of warmth, creativity, joy, and confidence. She is remembered for the way she lit up a room, for her expressive laugh, for her love of movement and music, and for her ability to make others feel welcomed, encouraged, and alive in her presence.
Jean is survived by her twin sister, Ann M. Moss; the father of her children, Louis L. Jones III; her daughter Marie J. Wilson and Mark T. Wilson; her sons, Louis L. Jones IV, John Turner “J.T.” Jones and Jennifer Patterson Jones. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Travis L. Wilson and Emily R. Wilson; Alexandra “Lexi” Minetree Jones; Rachael Marie Wilson; and Shelby Jean Jones.
