Larry Charles Keister, 83, passed away peacefully on March 24th, 2025 at his home in Atlanta, GA. He was born on July 30th, 1941 in Charlottesville, VA to Thomas Clinton Keister and Doris Hutcherson Keister. Larry was a devout Christian, loving husband, father and grandfather, and a true southern gentleman.
Larry graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa and attained his Masters of Business Administration from Emory University in Atlanta and began his professional career working for Phipps Land Company. He proceeded to make a name for himself in commercial real estate lending for the First National Bank Atlanta, and he continued to work in the field through several bank mergers of the 1980’s through the early 2000’s.
Larry loved to socialize and enjoyed the company of family and close friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting duck and quail, and golf. He had a life-long affinity for horses, playing polo in his youth and avidly watching the spring horse racing season with a stiff drink in hand. He loved sports cars and enjoyed attending car shows and visiting car museums. Larry had an eye for style and was often complimented for his dapper attire. He was nicknamed “Kiwi” in college for the meticulous condition of his loafers, in reference to his favorite brand of shoe polish. In his retirement, Larry especially enjoyed playing golf with friends and walking his beloved dog, Bailey, with a nice cigar. He was a long time member of Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, VA and The Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, GA. He was an active member of The Church of The Apostles as well as volunteer and supporter of the Leading the Way ministries in Atlanta, GA.
Larry was a wonderful father, prioritizing time with each of his children, leading through example, and supporting their individual interests and passions.
Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rebecca Mitchell Keister, his three children, Kathryn Keister Roberts (Graham), Thomas Mitchell Keister (Lauren), and Ruth Keister Snell (Fred), his seven grandchildren, Charles, Miller and Charlotte Roberts, Will and Ali Keister and Mills and Woody Snell.
