

Marian Abernathy, formerly of Roswell, Georgia, passed away February 24, 2015. Marian was born in Aragon, Georgia, to Henry and Ola Neal. At the age of two, she moved to Atlanta. Although Marian was an only child, she grew up surrounded by her many uncles, aunts and cousins. She attended Murphy High School and graduated from McDonough High School in Henry County where she played basketball. After graduating, Marian worked for Life of Georgia Insurance Company. In 1952 Marian married her childhood sweetheart, Jack. They began their married life in California, moved back to Atlanta and then moved around to different parts of the Southeast. But they always made their way back home to the Atlanta area. Marian was a homemaker and supported Jack’s career throughout their marriage. She was always active in her church and with her children’s activities, including the PTA, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Little League baseball. Marian enjoyed playing golf and was an accomplished seamstress and artist. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack Neal Abernathy, Sr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Perkins, of Demorest, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Carmen Abernathy, of Marietta, Georgia; granddaughter, Whitney Abernathy, of Boston, Massachusetts and grandson, Ben Abernathy, of Atlanta, Georgia. A memorial service for Marian will be held on Sunday, March 1, at Roswell United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests contributions to be made to Roswell United Methodist Church.
