

Adored mother and grandmother, Martha “Marti” Beverage Carmichael passed away unexpectedly at her home in Atlanta on March 4th, 2016 at the age of 74. The daughter of Anna Laura Wilson Beverage and Floyd Fitzhugh Beverage, “Cookie” moved from Highland County, Virginia to Cocoa, Florida during elementary school. She was a cheerleader at Cocoa High School, graduating in 1960. After finishing Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing, she worked several years before marrying and raising her young children in Miami, Florida and later returning to Atlanta. In 1989, she returned to nursing at Piedmont Hospital for eighteen years before retiring to spend time with her family near and far.
Marti volunteered her time with the CHARLEE project, serving abused and neglected youth. She enjoyed playing tennis with ALTA, bridge and completing crossword puzzles. Throughout her life, she fostered life-long friendships built on love and loyalty that withstood the test of time and distance.
She was preceded in death by brother Floyd Fitzhugh Beverage, Jr. and former husband Guy Carmichael, Jr. She is survived by three sisters Lou Vail, Alberta Fioccoprile (Mike) and Darla Beverage (Kent Gardner), children Mark Carmichael of Redwood City, California, Ann Carmichael Meadows (Walker) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sharon Carmichael Dotson (Greg) of Burlingame, California, and granddaughters Reagan, Elizabeth, and Emily Meadows and Emmaline and Sallie Dotson.
She is remembered by her family as “Grammy”, beloved maker of lasagna, brunswick stew, dutch baby pancakes, “punky” bread, and magical moments for her five beautiful granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 14th at H.M. Patterson & Son - Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
