Martin "Marty" Hammerman

Martin “Marty” Hammerman, beloved son of the late Jack and Jenny Hammerman, passed away at the age of 79. A native New Yorker who made the South his home, Marty lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength.

He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jerry Henderson; his son, Brian Hammerman; and three cherished grandchildren; Ariel Martin, Gabriel, and Levi. He is also survived by his sister Gail Plaskowitz and brother-in-law and dear friend Alvin Plaskowitz; his sister and brother-in-law Leslie and Jay Kaufman; and sisters-in-law Avy Kaufman-Nesbit and Joan Kaufman; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Marty’s love story with his late wife, Gail, spanned more than 50 years- a bond defined by deep affection, steadfast support, and a shared joy in life’s simple pleasures. Gail often said Marty had a smile that lit up his entire face- a smile she cherished and one that reflected the warmth and generosity of his spirit.

A proud Army veteran, Marty served his country with honor before dedicating much of his career to women’s retail- first through the military, then as a businessman, and later as a talented Honda car salesman. He had a true gift for connecting with people-not just selling to them, but listening, caring, and earning their trust and respect.

Family was everything to Marty. His love ran deep, shown in the countless sacrifices he made to care for and protect those he loved.

Marty found joy in the simple things-sitting outdoors, exploring new places, enjoying a good meal, and spending time with family.

His was a life well lived, full of heart, humility, and generosity. Marty will be deeply missed and his memory will be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
