
Mary Bohland Duke passed away at home on Friday, July 5, 2013. She was born on September 19, 1919 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Mary was a person of diversified talents. She served as prima ballerina with the St. Paul Civic Opera Association while still in high school and was an ice-skating star with Holiday on Ice for many years. She wrote scripts and designed sets in Hollywood. Mary also loved composing music. A licensed pilot, Mary was very proud of her years with the Civil Air Patrol. She had a degree in interior design from St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul, Minnesota and worked in that field for many years in the Atlanta area. Mary taught design at several Atlanta schools including many Evening at Emory classes. For years she had her own design firm, Mary Duke Designs. Always a member of ASID, she was president of that organization at one time. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband William G. Duke. She leaves behind her very dear friend and caregiver, Benjamin Chirinos, his wife Delia, and their sons Juan Manuel and Marcelo. There will be a Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 10 o’clock in St. Mary’s Chapel at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, a favorite charity of Mary’s.
