

Nell Hardeman Baldwin passed away in the early morning on Friday, November 7, 2014, following a brief illness. From her faith, she leaves a legacy of compassion, lasting friendships, service to others, and devotion to her family. A Home Economics graduate of the University of Georgia, Nell’s favorite activities included cooking, sewing and gardening. While raised in the Methodist Church in her hometown of Winterville, Georgia, she was a long-time member of Beecher Hills Baptist Church in southwest Atlanta and, more recently, has been a devoted member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church of Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Henry C. Baldwin of Rockmart, Georgia, as well as Henry’s son Jack L. Baldwin and his wife, Bobbie C. Baldwin. Nell was also predeceased by her four siblings, Nina Hardeman Haynie, Jessie G. Hardy, Lewis C. Hardeman, and Florry S. Hardeman. She cared for each of her siblings in their final days in a loving and selfless manner. Survivors include her son, Steven R. Baldwin and his wife, Lisa D. Baldwin; two grandchildren, Lauren Brooke Baldwin, and James Ryan Baldwin and his wife Wrenn Elam Baldwin; one step-grandson, Christian James Mohr. Other surviving family members include Carol Baldwin Martin and husband, Hal, of Atlanta, Joye Baldwin Callaway and husband, Tony, of Atlanta, and Laura Baldwin Lloyd and husband, Peter, of Roswell, each of whom simply called her “Aunt Nell”. Funeral services will be held at Mount Vernon Baptist Church at two o’clock on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, with pastors Aaron Menikoff and Bryan Pillsbury presiding. Interment will take place at Westview Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from six until eight o’clock P.M. on Tuesday, November 11 at H. M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel in Sandy Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Nell H. Baldwin to the American Cancer Society or to the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
