I met Howard in 1973 ..downtown Atlanta..about 6:30 am ..his choice by habit, mine because I was looking for business. One of the  most demanding persons I ever traded with. Just as he never cut corners on his word, he was insistent that you not do so in the work or product you delivered. He was the quickest study I ever met about building maintenance. ...always looking for a better way to do something, no matter how important or how mundane. If you wanted to make a hammer  or build an office tower, he could do it ..for any spec you had in mind. Always willing to share what he knew, hire you to do a good days work, and show you  how you succeeded and where you failed. I learned from him that you can get anything for any price, but first class materials and workmanship costs less than any alternative.  His insistence to get all with whom he traded  to believe that exemplified the rare man I shall always remember. 

I work at the Kemp Memorial Library on Due West Road (Marietta, 30064).    I had the privilege of knowing Mr. Smith and his lovely wife for many years.  They were both wonderful and kind.  It was obvious that they loved each other very much.   Mr. Smith would bring us the best tomatoes and tell us stories about his garden.   We were  sad when Mrs. Smith passed.  We got to enjoy Mr. Smith for several years after that, but we could see that he missed her so much.   They were a special couple.  Everyone here is sad to hear of his passing, but we are happy to think of them together again.  We  just heard about his passing today.  We are praying that GOD would comfort all of you.  5/1/2019
   

I met my friends Mr Smith and his late wife about 18 years ago  at there favorite seafood restaurant. He’d always say to me “what’s good on the menu tonight”. I knew exactly what he'd like and loved taking care of him. . I loved hearing all of his stories . Such a bright man. Always kind and loving.
 My condolences to the family. 

Howard was very important to my dad and my family.  He was a very good man and a very hard worker.  Kevin, thank you for all you did for my father and my family.  Our condolences are with you.

He is survived by his children, Mallory Smith Robertson (L. Hall) of Oxford, Fl., Kevin Howard Smith (Karen) of Kennesaw, Ga.; grandchildren, Ramsey Robertson Magaro (Joe) of Sandy Springs, Kyle Lindley Smith (Michelle) of Kennesaw, and great grandchildren Joseph Hall Magaro and Thomas Robertson Magaro.
