Virginia Anne Milton Thompson died peacefully in her sleep on March 25, 2025. In her final days, she was surrounded by her loving family and left this world knowing she was deeply cherished. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, we trust that the Lord gave her husband, Alfred Thompson, a good fifteen-minute heads-up to prepare for catching up on the 25 years they spent apart — and knowing Anne, she likely had a list of updates and stories ready to share.
Anne was born in Atlanta in 1937, and spent her life embodying the grace, charm, and strength of a true Southern lady. She attended Northside High School and graduated from the University of Georgia — a school she proudly championed all her life. She cheered on her Georgia Bulldogs with unmatched passion. She consistently sported her favorite colors of red and black always supporting the Dawgs.
After college, she married her sweetheart, Alfred, and together they built a life rooted in love, family, and faith. She was a devoted mother to three children and later became “Mimi” to nine extraordinary grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. Anne loved to play tennis, and nothing made her happier than spending time with her family at the beach or gathered at the lake house she built — places where laughter was shared, memories were made, and her generous heart was on full display.
Anne was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for 72 years, and an active member of the Piedmont Driving Club and Capital City Country Club. She was a faithful volunteer and supporter of many charitable causes in her community. Those who knew her will remember her quick wit, strong opinions, generous spirit, and her deep devotion to those she loved.
She also had a deep and abiding love for dogs, believing every pup deserved to be spoiled with affection and treats. Her home was a haven for both people and pets, each welcomed with open arms.
Anne is survived by her brother, Bob Milton; her children, Alfred Thompson (Leigh-Ann), Rob Thompson (Lisa), and Lil McKean (Dave); and her nine beloved grandchildren. She is now reunited with her husband, Alfred; her brothers, Virgil (Sissy), Jim (Peg), and Bill (Martha) Milton; and a host of dear friends, family members, and her cherished dogs who surely greeted her with wagging tails.
A service in celebration of her life will be held at on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 11 am in Dobbs Chapel at Trinity Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, and in true Mimi fashion, please treat your friends, family, and pets with a little extra love in her honor.
