Wyatt Eliot Johnson

Wyatt Eliot Johnson, Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Piedmont Hospital surrounded by family. He was born in Asheville, North Carolina on January 25, 1944. He moved to Atlanta from Jacksonville, Florida in 1952. Wyatt graduated from North Fulton High School in 1962 and from the University of Georgia in 1966 with a B.S. degree in Economics. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Wyatt had a long and distinguished career in mortgage banking, beginning at Tharpe and Brooks and ending with retirement from the mortgage company that he founded, Phoenix Financial.

Wyatt was a lifelong member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Wyatt loved the Georgia Bulldogs but most of all he treasured his long-lasting friendships with high school friends, Pine Forest neighbors, and his poker group of 50 years. Wyatt will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and loyal friend.

Wyatt is survived by the love of his life, high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Cornelia G. Johnson (Cornie); daughter, Margaret Johnson Cannell (Meg); daughter-in-law, Traci Burkett Johnson; Grandsons Ian Cannell, Jr.; Griffin Cannell; Wyatt E. Johnson, III (Trey) and grand-daughters Mary Trammel Johnson and Lucy Johnson; nieces Cindy Glenn (Lenny), Cile Warr (Woodie); nephew Glenn Griffin, III (Dana). He is preceded in death by his parents, Leona and George Johnson; sister Caryl Johnson; Mother-in-law Margaret Gholston; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Glenn Griffin, Jr.; and his beloved son Wyatt E. Johnson, Jr.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to be held following the service at the church in Heritage Hall.
