Barbara Joy Sharkey, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born on May 14, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Max and Sylvia Diamond. She grew up alongside her sister Roslyn Press and her brother Alan Diamond, in a close-knit family that instilled in her a deep love for connection, laughter, tradition and fun.
Barbara married and raised a family that became the center of her world. She is survived by her three devoted children: Kevin Sharkey; Melinda (Sharkey) Hamlin and her husband Tracy; and Douglas Sharkey and his wife Stacey. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Nicole, Michael, Allison, Marissa, DJ, Ricky, and Kristi —and her great-grandchildren—Jalyn, Scottie, Clara, Dean, Mallory, Vinnie, and Cassandra —each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
Since relocating to Florida in 1992, Barbara embraced the sunshine and community with warmth and enthusiasm. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: playing mahjong, cards and bingo with friends, spending time with her family, and tuning into her favorite shows on the Game Show Network. Her wit, warmth, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She never lost her spirit to be part of all festivities and opportunities for fun. She loved life.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life so beautifully lived. Following the funeral, we will be gathering at the Hamlins both Friday and Saturday.
A public visitation will be held at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel, located at 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, FL 32771, on February 6, 2026, starting at 11:00am.
The graveside committal will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Co Rd 46A, Lake Mary, FL 32746, on February 6, 2026, immediately following the service.
