

Donald M. Fann, Sr. of Sanford passed away on Monday, December 24th at home. Donald was born on July 26, 1930 in Palmetto, Florida to John D. Fann, Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Fann (deceased). He is also pre-deceased by his wife, Sue Ann Fann who passed away in May of 2013, his brothers, James T. "J.T.", John D. "Jack", Jr., and Claude Charles "Bill" Fann, his sisters, Mophis (Mickey) Main, and Wanna Jane Skipper.
He is survived by his son, Donald M. "Don" Fann, Jr. (Wendee), and daughters, Melinda “Mindy" Nunn, and Patricia "Pat" (Mark) Fink, Grandchildren, Adam, Ryan and Chad Barkley, Elizabeth Fink-Arrington, Savannah Fann, and Carli Nunn, great-grandchildren, Alexi, Hunter, Kyleigh, Kaylin, Keira and Kolton Barkley, also Laurell Louise Arrington (due 1/10/19). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was of the Baptist faith and rededicated his life to the Lord in December of 2012 and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Longwood, Florida.
He graduated from Manatee High School in 1948. He met his wife, Sue Ann (Everett) Fann, the love of his life, in Venice Florida and they were married at First Baptist Church of Venice in 1951, the same year he joined the U.S. Army.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry Division for 20 years, retiring in 1971 at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He served all over the world, including Okinawa, Japan, two tours in Vietnam, Omaha, Nebraska, Ft. Benning, Georgia, Ft. Polk, Louisiana, and Augsburg, Germany, with his final station at the National Guard Armory in Johnson City, Tennessee.
After retiring from the service, he attended and graduated from Florida Technological University (now UCF) with a BA in Social Science, Cum Laude. He taught for one year at Sanford Middle School, and quickly decided that wasn't his preferred vocation. He worked several jobs after that and ended up working and retiring from Doudney Surveyors in Sanford.
He lived in Sanford for 47 years, from 1971 until his death. He loved and was very proud of his family, and will forever be in their hearts.
A Memorial Gathering is scheduled for Saturday December 29, 2018 from 1:00 ~ 2:00 P.M. at the Baldwin Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel located at 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, Florida 32771. The service to celebrate Don's life is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. following visitation. The interment will immediately follow the Celebration of Life at Oaklawn Park Cemetery.
