

Retired Major Roy Hughey of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014. He was 66. Roy was born in Orlando, Florida on July 25, 1947 to John M. and Katherine (Newell) Hughey. He was married to Joanne (Brumbaugh) Hughey and they resided in Geneva. Roy retired from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department after 30 years, having started the helicopter and S.W.A.T. programs. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Roy was an avid pet lover and a faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo. During his non-working hours, he loved drag racing and WWE wrestling. Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne; daughters Francine (Michael) Waldron of Longwood, Melissa (Bobby) Kreinbring of Lake Monroe, Josette (Terry Blow) Duncan of Geneva; son Ed (Judi) Schuckman of Lake Mary; step-son Jason Dunn of Sanford; 10 grandchildren: Hayden, Dawson, Megan, Ashley, Kyle, Sarai, Stephen, Taylor, Jenna, and Brant; and brother John (Claudia) Hughey of Geneva. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved pets: Lady, Sam, and Luckey. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29th from 10-11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Oviedo, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Reverend Wally Arp officiating.
