From the time I was a Freshman in high school I was always made to feel welcome in the Brewer home. I have so many memories that I love that include Joy. One that was always special to me was when Karyn and I started running. The Brewer's were always there cheering us on at Disney, the Space Coast or wherever we were. I know it was not always easy for Joy to be there, but she was there cheering us on. Those days are days I will never forget. Joy was always so kind, I was blessed to have known her. I am praying for the Brewer family, my sincerest condolences. 

Seems like yesterday that myself and the McDonalds gang watched you and Darrell drive away in his Javelin after exchanging wedding vows.  Glad I was able to reconnect….but sorry I have to see you leave….but happy to know that an eternity awaits you, Joy.

It’s so hard to believe that she is gone.  She struggled with health issues for so long but always did her best to keep her sense of humor.  

Darrell, her children and grandchildren were her life.  She found her happiness in them.  Darrell was her soulmate and the love of her life.  Theirs was an enduring love that is rarely found.  I will be forever grateful that she found such an amazing man to be her husband and our brother.  Her heart was filled with pride and love when she talked about her children and her grandsons.  

I am comforted by the memories of childhood road trips, Christmas morning excitement, fights over daily chores, late night girl talk, Lawrence Welk, charity telethons, West Virginia berry picking, homemade dresses, shucking bushels of corn, shelling peas, surf fishing, early morning rocket launches, driving a stick shift, and sharing the heartache of losing beloved family members.  No one could have had a better sister.  

I am forever grateful, Joy, that you were a part of my life.  I will love you alway. Til we meet again….  

My aunt was like a grandmother to me. I will never forget how much she believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. She was at my law school graduation and was there for me during the bar exam. Her family was always her first priority. She taught me the importance of love. Her relationship with Uncle Darrell is something I hope to aspire to. She was a fighter. I don’t know how our family will fill this hole, but I know there are so many memories that will always make her feel as if she is still here. 

I knew Joy through Darrell, and really liked her, but of all the years I knew her, the longest conversation I ever had with her was the night I brought Darrell home shortly after he was hired. He had the misfortune of being the tallest officer at the time and the tallest target for a brick that hit him while we were working the usual summer unrest in Goldsboro. When I sat Joy down to explain what happened to Darrell, her concern was obvious. I did my best to calm her down. We talked for awhile as Darrell got cleaned up. When I was leaving their house she pulled me aside and asked "is this what I have to look forward to?" I told her, no, this was an isolated incident, and as he learns the streets he will come home unscathed. That was actually the longest talk we ever had. She was such a good person.

My sister believed in true love.  She came home from her first date with Darrell and told us she was going to marry him.  They have always been inseparable.  Joy was a caring, strong woman who watched Star Trek movies with me when I had a broken heart.  She was a great  example as a parent for me and since our mom was gone filled in for her the best she could.  As bad as she had been feeling, she and Darrell traveled to Tallahassee to see my daughter graduate law school.  She  always made sure to make my kids feel important to her.  She will be missed by them and especially by me.

I spent the last few days think of everything you have done for me growing up. You were always there when needed.  Though time sent me on my own journey I always new if I needed you you wouldn’t hesitate. You are truly my second mom and I will always remember you that way. I am so glad my family was able to know you.  You will be missed incredibly.   Love Bryan and Family

I wish I could make all of you feel better through this difficult time,  but there just are no words for that.  I have so many fond memories of Joy, making floats for the Sanford Christmas parade!  All the department parties and just being with y'all and Darrel and Becky.
Joy was always so kind and caring.  She loved you Darrell with all of her heart and soul.  She loved her family dearly.
She will be missed by so many but she will be looking over all of you now.  Remember the good times and even the rough times and she will be in your hearts forever.

Aunt Joy had a heart of gold. She lit up every where she went with her smile and her kindness. I will miss her so much. She was a beautiful person inside and out. I loved her with all my heart ❤️.  My prayers are with my Uncle Darrell and my cousins. Plus, my prayers go out to Aunt Joy's side of the family too. Love you all. ♥️ 

There are no words to express the sadness I feel with the loss of my dearest long loved friend. Darrel and I met  Darrell and Joy as very young adults.  We grew up together as we raised our families. We went around the world and back with them. They have always been there for us and us for them.  Darrell, Stephanie, Darrell Jr and Karen it’s up to you guys to to carry on with her love for her family and friends. Just know we will always be a phone call away if you need anything.  We love you all dearly and want to continue to be a part of the family and share our memories of Joy.  I see exciting things  to come for all of you as you go on.  Remember too that you are always welcome in my home. I do expect visits Darrell. We can talk about the fun times we had and keep Joys  spirit around us.  Love all of you, Becky and Darrel.
